
What is interaction design?
In the context of government digital services and policies, interaction design is used to implement designed screens for government service users’ needs and objectives, across all Whitehall departments. This can be any service from applying for a driving licence to carbon offset trading. Working closely with user researchers, who help to inform the design process; it is an essential discipline to create prototype designs on both screen and paper with which to test, iterate and ultimatley release as citizen facing gov.uk services acoss all of the UK.
What are the admissions criteria?
Anyone can enter our courses. You do need to be motivated and committed. You need to be able to speak and write in English as all our tutorials are delivered in English.
How long is the course?
The interaction design courses start from 09.30 and finish at 17.30 GMT.
Will I build a portfolio?
Yes, practical work is an essential part of the course. The practical work will form part of your portfolio and is based on existing gov.uk services.
How is the course delivered?
Online instructor led training brings the classroom to you. You will be connected online to your class through MS Teams, to make learning simple, collaborative and enjoyable.
For each course there is an initial brief presentation overview of interaction design followed by individual or group exercises.

All students are required to download MS Teams, Axure RP Pro trial and Sketch trial, prior to joining the course.

Will there be hands on exercises?
Yes, throughout each course, you will complete a series of exercises that will give you hands on practical experience in interaction design within GDS.
How big are the virtual classes?
Each course is limited to a maximum of 5 students per session. We accept enrolments on a first come, first served basis.
Are the courses recognised?
Yes, the courses are based on government digital services.
Are the courses licensed?
Yes, under government open source and public sector information.
Is there a course certificate?
Yes, on completion of your course, your personalised UCDFocus digital cerificate will be emailed to you.
Are the tutors experienced?
Yes, all our tutors are qualified design professionals with more than 15 years experience in government.
Are the courses difficult?
No, our courses are straightforward to understand and follow, but do require your complete attention.
Is the course refundable?
All courses are non-refundable. Please carefully read the terms and conditions.
